The project required concrete stairs to provide access between internal bunded areas of a bulk fuel storage facility. In order to maintain a continuous containment to the base of the fuel installation, stairs were to be suspended above the berm liner.
Given the location of the stair units, casting by conventional in-situ construction methods would prove to be difficult. NACC designed precast concrete stair elements engineered to be suspended between footers and thus provide adequate clearance. The concurrent manufacture of elements off site allowed for the continuation of installation works to the berm containment. Once the liner had been completed stairs were simply craned into position and secured accordingly.
